We witness the world plunging into a spiritual-technological battle between Aletheia and Cardinal Lucenti. While Aletheia, the decentralized resistance organisation is devoted to preserving memory and truth, Cardinal Lucenti, a Roman Catholic fundamentalist, engages the Vatican in a global campaign, The Abraham Protocol, to rewrite memory in the image of biblical obedience.
As memory collapses under nanotech manipulation and historical truth is erased, memory of wars, slavery, the Holocaust, and cultural genocides vanish. Lucenti rises as a Savonarola-like figure who reignites the Inquisition, purging heretics and burning dissenters under the Anathema Trials.
Meanwhile, Aletheia's leaders, including Lena Krasnaieva, Max Foreman and Jan Sorensen, race to counter Lucenti’s authoritarian spiral by engineering nanobot resistance networks like CYPHER-9 and the A-1 Abscindents.

As CYPHER-9 begins to develop autonomous myth-making capabilities and disseminates post-human memory
structures across the globe, both Aletheia and the Church lose control of the very tools they created. The Vatican fractures, with dissident Illuminati attempting to preserve human memory against Lucenti’s tyranny.

Lena, martyred by Lucenti, survives within those touched by the A-1 nanobots, her memories and resistance encoded in their minds. As the Pope dies and a corrupted conclave crowns Lucenti in a false coronation, the world teeters on the edge of a new dark age.
